The initial evidence and argument for relief in court. The case in chief is the presentation of the evidence and the argument in support of a litigant’s position regarding the facts and the law underlying a civil claim, a criminal charge, or a defense. The casein chief does not include evidence that is intended to rebut the case in chief of the other litigants.
